The School Curriculum
The school believes in a broad and balanced curriculum built upon the National Curriculum and reflecting the best in teaching and learning.
Core Subjects
English (Literacy), Mathematics (Numeracy), Science and Information & Communication Technology.
Foundation Subjects
History, Geography, Design and Technology, Music, Art, Physical Education, Modern Foreign Language (French) and Citizenship and PSHE.
Pupils start French in their first year in the school.
Religious Education
Religious Education is taught in line with Northumberland’s SACRE guidelines and reflects Christian tradition and other principal religions.
Collective worship
Accommodation limits our ability to hold daily whole school assemblies, but all pupils attend a minimum of two collective assemblies each week.
Use is made of visiting speakers to lead our assemblies when appropriate. We also have classroom, year group and house assemblies on other days of the week. Parents should contact the school if they wish to withdraw their children from RE and/or collective worship.
Sex education
Sex education is integrated into the Science and Citizenship (PSHE) programmes of study.
Special educational needs
The school recognizes and responds to the individual educational needs of all our children. We believe that early identification and the provision of appropriate support is vital so that we can work sensitively and form a partnership between teachers, parents and outside agencies. The school also has a policy to support those pupils who are identified as being Gifted and Talented or exceptionally able.
Wherever possible the school operates a policy of Inclusion so that multi cultural and equal opportunities, and pupils with Special Educational Needs are integrated into the normal working of the school.
